This was taken from a live recording made at the Knitting Factory. The band consists of Eyvind Kang, Kato Hideki and Calvin Weston. The drums were submixed by Wayne Horwitz and then overdubs were performed at the Theatre of Mineral NADE's. The final tracks were mixed on Halloween '96 at Gravelvoice. It's amazing that this record even sounds half way decent! The original tracks were done sort of hap hazard. Eyvind had told me that the mic for his violin track was laying on the floor most of the evening. It was done on a DA-88 (16 tracks). Since Eyvind only owned a DA-38, He went to Wayne's to submix the drums since they took up an entire 8 tracks. The problem was that too much reverb was put on the sub mix. Eyvind and I mixed what we had on Halloween. I thought it sounded pretty good. It was raw and loud. Zorn heard it and hated it. He said the violin was too abrasive and too loud. So we did another mix which was bass heavy. Then Tucker Martine did a mix which was drum heavy. We finally did a fourth mix which was just right. By the time the record came out, I didn't want to hear it anymore. I should have saved those Halloween mixes. Those were the shit!
